The Najai are a race of people whose lower half (hips downward) is much like the rear half of a serpent, while there upper half is that of a humanoid. This delineation is not absolute however as most Najai have scaling that continues a little above the waist and reappears in a few small patches over the eyelids and on the back, neck and arms. Najai scaling tends to be in greens and blues, offering effective camouflage in their home waterways. The humanoid skin ranges from light to dark brown and tends to extend across the stomach and ends a little above what would be a groin area on a human. Najai have slightly pointed ears and slightly slanted eyes. A Najai’s general physique seems a little smaller then a typical human though if you measure them head to tip of tail they are approximately 10’ long. The last 4’ of the tail is typically used for locomotion or balance and does not contribute to the height of Najai. Najai are very at home in water, on sand, on rock, propelling their bodies much as a snake would. They have a second transparent eyelid that helps protect their eyes while underwater and facilitates their night vision.
Najai behavior tends to be reserved and more cautious then many other races. Najai will typically try to learn additional information before taking action or jumping to conclusions. This is not to say the Najai are not passionate but rather that their passions do not interfere with their decision making the way it does for some people. Najai, like the elven races, tend to have a strong affinity for nature and both revere and guard it from events and incursions that bring too much change too fast. Najai society is matriarchal and strongly focused around the family unit. Males traditionally are hunters and food gatherers while females tend to control most aspects of the society and family. Males are typically relied on to offer protection, while females are more aggressive and used to exert Najai power abroad if needed.
